Husqvarna have taken the wraps off their latest race supermoto – the FS450 – which is available to purchase now.
I know, you thought supermotos were dead, didn’t you? So did everybody else, apparently, the FS450 is the only OEM-produced competition supermoto available. But that hasn’t stopped Husqvarna from creating an absolute beast of a bike.
Husky have managed to squeeze a claimed 63bhp out of the 450cc single-cylinder engine, which is incredibly impressive. For comparison, Husky’s own 701 Supermoto (which is actually 690cc) pumps out out 67bhp. Sticking with the engine, the new FS450 features a compact cylinder head, which allows the camshaft to be sit closer to the bike’s centre of gravity, improving handling.
Front suspensions is courtesy of WP XACT forks, while a WP rear shock takes care of the rear, with 266mm of travel. Wire-spoked Alpina wheels sit at the ends of the springs, 17 inch at the rear and 16.5 inch at the front. Out of the showroom they’re shod with Bridgestone slicks.
Supermotos are traditionally the most basic, stripped back motorcycles available, but the clever folk at Husqvarna have managed to give the FS450 launch control, for those perfect launches when the flag drops.
Husqvarna haven’t announced pricing, but we imagine it’ll cost a pretty penny.
