Valerie Thompson crashes at 299mph during World Record motorcycle speed attempt

‘Fastest woman on two wheels’ survives ‘stunning wreck’ during day three of the World Speed Trials in Australia.

We were hoping to see an all-time FIM World Record being recorded from the American speed-queen and her  500 hp, 3000 cc, dual overhead cam, 4 valve, turbocharged V4 motorcycle, but reports from the Dry Lake Australia Facebook pages describe a ‘stunning wreck’ instead.

Conditions were said to be ideal as the Team 7 Racing crew began their attempt at a 400 mph record, but once Thompson had passed the four mile marker – at a speed of 299 mph – onlookers are reported to have described the rear-end of the 21 foot-long streamliner raising into the air before the parachutes deployed, helping to stabilise the crash.

Wreckage of the crash is said to have been strewn across the course for nearly a mile.

Thankfully Valerie Thompson was seen walking away from the accident with only minor injuries reported.
