Indian Motorcycle have hired ex-BMW Head of Vehicle Design as their new Design Director

Huge coup as BMW man responsible for most recent BMW design direction jumps to Indian as Design Chief.

Indian Motorcycle Company today announced the hiring of motorcycle industry design veteran Ola Stenegard as its Director of Product Design. Having been at BMW since 2003 he was responsible for the HP2 Sport, S1000RR and BMW R nine T programmes (amongst many more) but has always maintained a passion for huge V-Twins and cruiser motorcycles;  something which is evident to anyone who’s ever met him or stumbled across his social media accounts.

As a huge presence within the BMW team he will surely be missed by the Bavarian manufacturer, but it’s for his constant cheer-leading of the new wave custom scene – even at a time when most manufacturers dismissed the then up-and-coming genre that many will have appreciated him for. It is arguably his and Shun Miyazawa’s work at Yamaha that did most to project the allure of custom machines into the modern, manufacturer aesthetic.

“It’s rare to find a designer with Ola’s unique experience, and we are thrilled to have him on board at such an exciting and important time for our business.” Steve Menneto, Indian Motorcycle President

It is perhaps for this work that the folks at Indian will be expecting great things.

Indian won’t be too unfamiliar for the Swedish motorcycle designer either, as Stenegard did in fact spend two years at the company from 2001 – 2003.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining Indian Motorcycle at a time when the brand has successfully returned itself to prominence and is powered by an increasing level of momentum”
