Rapper 2 Chainz gets tattoo made out of Indian Motorcycle exhaust dirt.
This week on Viceland’s show Expensivist, rapper 2 Chainz got a small tattoo at the famous Hart & Huntington tattoo shop in Las Vegas to symbolize two of his kids, using a very special type of ink. The ink is made from the exhaust carbon ash and smoldering tire remains of Carey Hart’s own Indian Super Hooligan motorcycle, aptly named Indian Motorcycle Ink.
Carey Hart is well known for his freestyle motocross career and is the owner of Hart & Huntington Tattoo. Essentially Hart did a burnout on his custom Indian motorcycle. Then Franco Vescovi, co-founder of Nocturnal Ink, collected the carbon (carbon is a common ingredient in tattoo ink) and then sterilized, purified and made it into an ink. Hart was the first person to have the ink tattoed on his body, seen in the video below
The question is: is it even safe? Vescovi brings years of quality ink manufacturing experience to the table, ensuring the process is sterile and safe. Per Vescovi, “The carbon simply acts as a pigment carried by the alcohol suspension. In fact, many black inks on the market use carbon as pigment. Ours just happens to come from a smoldering motorcycle tire and a smoking tailpipe.”
This is definitely a unique way to bring you closer to your motorcycle. Indian Motorcycle Ink sells for about $300 per cap according to the Expensivist video. However only 10 bottles of the ink were made, making it ultra rare. If you are interested in getting a new tat using the Indian Motorcycle ink, Hart and Huntington as well as Vatican Studios are the only shops using it.
