The three-wheeled Niken isn’t the only multi wheeled vehicle that Yamaha built for the Tokyo Motor Show.
May we introduce to you the Cross Hub Concept.
This truck is like if a Honda Ridgeline and a Yamaha side by side had a baby. First off, its fairly small. While Yamaha claims they can fit two bikes and they show a full size dirt bike in the bed, it has to be put in at an angle. The only way you can fit a second bike in there is if its TTR-90 sized. There is no way a Super Tenere is fitting in that thing. You’d think a motorcycle company would have thought of that?
However its not all bad. The vehicle has a very unique diamond style seating arrangement with the driver in the middle, very much McLaren F1 influenced. As a matter of fact Yamaha worked with the McLaren Designer, Gordan Murray, on previous projects like the Sports Ride, so this driver centered style isn’t new.
Also, the aesthetics of the vehicle are very urbanite. It has a very futuristic yet minimalist approach. It has air channels between the bed and the cab for airflow as well as an austere tailgate with the led lights built in.
While they don’t provide any powertrain specs we can imagine it wouldn’t need much to make this little rig get up and go.
The Cross Cub is still only a concept of course, but we wouldn’t be too upset if Yamaha actually made a vehicle like this.
We only ask that they make the bed big enough to fit any bike in their lineup!
