Ducati bag another ‘all Italian’ win at the Pirelli Riviera Di Rimini round.
Having crashed in the previous race, Marco Melandri replied with the perfect response, with a victory over the two Kawasaki’s of Rea and Sykes respectively.
To add shine to his top-step win, this was also an Italian riders’ 100th victory within the premier class of the World Superbike championship. Naturally, the local crowd were left extremely happy after seeing an Italian rider grab that honour on an Italian bike at an Italian track.
Fourth and fifth places were claimed by yesterday’s unlucky crasher Van der Mark on the Yamaha and Randy Krummenacher on the Puccetti Kawasaki.
Elsewhere in the pack. Jordi Torres of Althea BMW Racing was annoyed to have to withdraw from the race – whilst in second place – with a tyre problem. In fact, only twelve riders finished the race with Lowes crashing at the midway point and the likes of Camier, Fores and Ramos all retiring with technical problems.
