Royal Enfield show off Continental GT and Himalayan based, custom builds.
Built by the ever-excellent, Sinroja Motorcycles – based in Leicester, UK and just a few miles away from Royal Enfield’s new UK HQ – the two new bikes have been revealed at the Wheels & Waves festival in Biarritz, France.
The ‘Surf Racer’ is based on the Royal Enfield Continental GT and features a huge amount of work. Stripped down to the bare essentials but married to a tuned motor with higher lift cam, machined piston barrels for better compression and an entirely new inlet manifold, the GT-based custom looks to be the epitome of a Café Racer. It’s light, it’s quick and it’s beautiful.
The ‘Gentleman Brat’ is an entirely different beast. Built on the utilitarian adventure tourer that is the Himalayan, everything has been stripped back and then seemingly pumped-up. Muscular lines and elements are everywhere and it even sits on what looks like balloon tyres, thanks to the clever trick of using wheels with white rims and white-walled tyres reminiscent of the Shaws Beach Bobber we rode a few months ago.
It’s not unusual for major manufacturers to release custom bikes at the festival, but Royal Enfield are slightly unusual in this regard – and should be commended – because unlike other marques who have only attended the festival in recent years, Royal Enfield have been an early sponsor of the event. Indeed, they were one of the first manufacturers to identify the ‘surf and custom motorcycle’ event as being one of international interest and have had a presence there since 2013.
