The new KTM MotoGP team will compete at the final round of the season.
The Austrian firm ran their first test at the Red Bull Ring last year and following a pretty decent test yesterday they’ve confirmed that they’ll be looking to make a single appearance in the last race of the season at Valencia this year.
Mika Kallio had been having a good day at the Austrian track in yesterday’s testing, finishing the day with the 16th fastest time overall and only 2.2 seconds slower than the leader, Ducati’s Andrea Dovisioso, but in an interview with MotoGP.com he let it slip that the KTM team were aiming to race at the end of the season.
“We were around two seconds behind the fastest guys, at the moment it’s quite good. We still have time to work before we come to the Valencia race, hopefully tomorrow we can improve even more.” – Mika Kallio, KTM
Paddock sources have told Motofire that the pace of the KTM machines – particularly along the straights – had surprised more than a few of the competitor garages in yesterday’s test and, with Mika Kallio confirmed as permanent tester for the team next year, the Austrian team can look forward to a fascinating entry when the 2017 season starts.
