We always get a little excited when boutique motorcycle and snowboard brand Crave for Ride unveil something new; the Polish-makers have a real gift for fusing substance and style.
The handmade Trophy is the latest addition to the range and is – in their words: “the world’s first single layer waxed anti-abrasion motorcycle protection jacket.”
Now, that might not sound that different to the norm, but the key is the ‘single layer’ bit, as unlike jackets that have the protective layer stitched or glued to the outer shell, Crave have employed aerospace-developed Armalith fabric to fuse the two layers into one.
The Trophy’s outer shell is waxed-look, Armalith anti-abrasion UHMWPE (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) denim that’s both incredibly abrasion resistant, and breathable – UHMWPE materials are highly resistant to rubbing, tearing, and penetrating objects, and have a higher level of mechanical resistance than Kevlar or Cordura. There are also pockets for shoulder and elbow protectors as well as space for a level 1 or level 2
Inside there’s a breathable acrylic/Lycra microfibre mesh; and there’s a plethora of pockets including a phone/wallet pocket on sleeve, a large zippered back pocket for gloves, wallet and an inner pocket for riding goggles.
RRP is $499 (US). Find your local stockist, and see the rest of the Crave range at http://craveforride.com/
