Car And Bike report suggests that the BMW R1200 GS is the big seller as the BMW assault on India begins.
Since launching their official sales operation in India back in April, BMW Motorrad have sold just shy of 150 bikes. And of those bikes it’s the top-of-the-range R1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure that are making up over 60% of the purchases by the Indian public.
Whilst initial numbers might appear small compared to the number of zeroes behind the sales figures of the larger players in the region – Hero sold 612,739 bikes in April for example – every company has to start somewhere and with the small displacement BMW G 310R not being launched in the region until 2018, there’s still plenty of opportunity for improvement.
There is a long way to go until they begin to hit the top ten selling companies in the region however, the 20th highest selling, single model in India for February 2017 was the Honda CB Unicorn with 19,986 units shipping out of dealer doors.
That puts the 90 or so R1200 GS sales into a little bit of perspective – and that’s before they’ve all been brought back in for a ‘safety check’.
