British Olympic medallist killed in motorcycle crash after Usain Bolt party

Germaine Mason and Usain Bolt were close friends and had been attending a party in Kingston, Jamaica before tragic accident.

The Jamaican-born high jumper is reported to have lost control of his Honda CBR600RR after leaving a party, and was pronounced dead after reaching the hospital.

Usain Bolt is said to have been ‘heartbroken’ and raced to the scene of the fatal motorcycle crash after hearing of the news of Mason’s incident, waiting at the scene until paramedics had taken the body away.

‘He allegedly lost control and fell from the motorcycle. The police were summoned and Mason was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead,’ – Jamaica Constabulary Force

Several high-profile athletes are also believed to have been in attendance at the party, including 100m and 200m World Record holder Bolt, 100m Silver medalist Michael Frater and former Bolton football defender Ricardo Garner.

Mason, 34, has a five year-old son and had competed for Great Britain in the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, winning a silver medal in the high jump.

He had retired from sport in 2016 and returned to Jamaica to be closer to his family and friends.
